In March 2025, I.C.T delivered a fully automated SMT & DIP production line to a leading manufacturer of smart beauty technology products. Their featured PCBA, measuring 275mm x 255mm, was engineered for use in high-end personal skincare devices with tight tolerance and multi-function circuit design.

Solving Manufacturing Challenges in Beauty Device PCBA


Beauty device PCBAs are among the most complex and sensitive assemblies in consumer wellness electronics. Manufacturing them requires addressing multiple process challenges with precision engineering and smart factory solutions.


1. High Placement Accuracy

During SMT assembly, components must be precisely positioned on the PCB pads. As components become smaller and pin pitches narrower, placement accuracy becomes more critical.

* Solution:
We deploy high-precision imported placement machines with placement accuracy up to ±30μm. In addition, high-resolution cameras enable accurate recognition of fine-pitch devices like BGA and QFP, ensuring reliability in personal care device PCB assembly.


2. Component Diversity in Size and Shape

Beauty PCBs often contain a wide range of components — resistors, capacitors, chips, connectors — each varying in size and shape.

* Solution:
To manage this, we apply a 1+1 configuration: one high-speed mounter for small passive components (e.g. capacitors, resistors) and one multifunctional mounter for larger items like connectors and ICs. This approach maximises efficiency and compatibility for personal beauty & skincare electronics.


3. Solder Paste Printing Quality

Consistent and accurate solder paste printing is crucial for successful SMT processes.

* Solution:
Before printing, solder paste is brought to room temperature and centrifugally stirred using a solder paste mixer to activate its properties. We then use a high-precision stencil printer with accuracy of ±0.025mm, ensuring optimal solder deposit quality for smart wellness devices.


4. Soldering Reliability and Thermal Control

For long-term device reliability, precise control of the reflow profile is essential.

* Solution:
We use professional reflow profiling equipment and train customers to verify temperature settings at the start of every shift. Our 10-zone reflow oven ensures consistent thermal control across PCBs, supporting the durability of at-home aesthetic medical devices.


5. Material Compatibility and Heat Dissipation

Different components have varying heat sensitivities. Uneven heat distribution can damage sensitive parts during reflow.

* Solution:
Our 10-zone ovens start with low-temperature preheating and soak stages, followed by gradual heating to match each component's heat profile. The oven's small-loop air circulation design gently directs warm air around the solder joints to reduce thermal shock and ensure smooth transitions.


6. Placement Speed and Efficiency

Productivity is key in smart beauty device manufacturing, but speed must not compromise accuracy.

Solution:
By separating small and large components in parallel mounting, the line reaches a theoretical speed of 180,000 CPH and a real output of 90,000–100,000 CPH, optimising throughput for health & wellness smart electronics.


7. Inspection and Quality Control

Post-placement inspection is essential to detect misalignment, solder bridges, or shorts.

Solution:
We equip the line with Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems to monitor and validate each board's quality, ensuring the highest consistency across batches.


8. Environmental Control

Environmental factors such as humidity and temperature fluctuations can affect solder quality and PCB reliability.

* Solution:
We help customers design SMT workshops that meet ISO 14644 cleanroom standards. Workshop conditions are maintained at 24±2°C temperature and 40–60% humidity, ensuring equipment and process stability for sensitive beauty tech PCBAs.
